From the wonderful mind of Tim Schafer comes a heavy metal fuelled action / real time strategy game. Tim Schafer is well known for his work on the classic Lucasarts adventure games like The Secret of Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Grim Fandango; as well as the highly rated but rarely played Psychonauts.

The game was born from Schafer’s love of heavy rock music and he’s created an awesome looking world that’s reminiscent of many classic album covers. The game follows the story of Eddie Riggs, a roadie who gets transported into this mysterious land of metal and is tasked with saving it from the evil overlords that rule over the land.

It kicks off with some great humour and simple but rewarding combat, and as the game progresses Stage Battles are introduced. These real time strategy style battles allow you to control your troops in a big rock concert arena and also allows you to jump into the action at any time to fight it out as Eddie.

As you might expect, the game has a very strong soundtrack of over 100 songs from well known artists, some of whom make cameo appearances in the game. The mix of gameplay styles may not be for everyone, but if you’re a fan of heavy metal or like games with bags of humour then it may be worth giving this game a try.
